Well I personally think it’s going to be a wee bit difficult to write this blog to be 300 words but I will give it my best shot. So I guess here we go…
I’d like to start off and say that our Socratic circle this past week was very informative and I feel that after it I had a much fuller understanding of the text and it helped me to develop some ideas that were kind of forming in my head. An idea that really stood out to me , was the comparision of Bernard and Winston and the similarities that they share. They are both the social outcasts who act like they want things one way, but think in a completely different direction. I might compare them and link it to the discussion of morals that I will mention. Some ideas of mine that were strengthened were the ideas about moral and values in Brave New World compared to those of the 21st Century, and also the question that was presented that I really liked was “Is our society today closer to the lives of the ‘savages’ or the lifestyle of the so called ‘normal people’ in Brave New World?” I really think that I will be about to elaborate on all those ideas because they are such a wide variety that I technically have the whole world in my hands and can relate the book to anything and everything. And to be honest that sort of freedom is all terrifying, exciting and sort of nerve-wrecking.
I really think I’ll end up pulling ideas from three different books: the Bible, 1984 and Postmodernism for Beginners. The Bible I will use to pull moral standards and values from; 1984 I will be able to relate the idea of worshiping and they are similar, yet so different; Postmodernism I’m not exactly sure how I will use this book yet, but I have a feeling that by the end of reading Brave New World I will have plenty of ideas on how I could use it to compare or contrast ideas from each book.
Well I hope that made sense I’m not too sure if it did and I’m way to tired right now to pick it apart. Goodnight bloggers!

“Is our society today closer to the lives of the ‘savages’ or the lifestyle of the so called ‘normal people’ in Brave New World?” That is a genius question to explain an essay. Many arguments and viewpoint can be formed from that question. In addition, I also agree with what Brittany said...the three examples of sources would be postive sources to include in your essay. The Bible would greatly highlight morals that you believe that are contradicting in BNW. 1984 is perfect for comparing similarities in characters and Postmoderism would assist some crazy technological issues in BNW. Overall, good topic points!

ReplyDeleteGood job on your blog :) Oh one thing I would like to point out! You say I talk like a dictionary, but so do you. I just had to point that out, not that it’s a bad thing!
Okay, well no to talk about your blog. I really enjoyed reading it. One thing that I really liked was how on your outside texts that you are planning to use, you listed the bible. This is an awesome Idea, and I wish I would of thought of it! You can really dig into the whole concept of the varying viewpoints on morals with within all of the societies with this. I am excited to see where you take that!
Also, I think that with your comparison between Winston and Bernard you could really analyze that to your advantage. I personally would argue an angle of how they are both “artificial” outcasts. For, they both abandon their beginning views. But then again, this is your essay, so it’s up to you how you want to mold that idea!
Well, great job again!
